About Us

Welcome to Cindy's Northern Crafts, Northern Michigan’s premier yarn shop!  Located in the beautiful town of Petoskey, Cindy’s stocks only the best supplies needed for knitting and crochet. The collection is always contemporary and changes frequently to keep the discerning crafter up on the latest trends.  When you enter the shop, prepare to be dazzled by the baskets and shelves of beautiful yarn, fabric and other items.  Cindy and her excellent staff are always willing to help, whether it’s choosing a new project, finding that perfect yarn, answering questions, or helping with accessories.  The yarn selections include every weight from lace to bulky. Cindy’s also features an eclectic selection of gifts, for that special person or your favorite crafter.  In 2018 we will start carrying local artisan gifts, yarns, and specialty items.

Cindy's offers classes for all skill levels, from the beginner through the experienced crafter looking for a new challenge.   Check the link on the website for a complete listing, with times, instructors, pre-requisites (if necessary), and materials.  Don’t see what you are interested in?  Call or drop us an email, and we will see what we can do.  We do ask that you support the shop by purchasing your materials here at Cindy’s.  That allows us to continue to offer you a variety of classes.

Looking for friends to craft with?  Check out our Open Knits/Crochet and Open Quilts!  These gatherings are held on most Saturdays and Wednesday midday.   Bring your needles and your projects and make some new friends!  You’ll find lots of social knitters, and lots of beautiful projects.   You may share if you want, but don’t feel you must.  Do ask questions if you have them!  We all know that knitters/quilters love to help each other!  But be warned:  All these marvelous projects and yarns can lead to enabling!

Cindy’s Too is on Ravelry!  Under the GROUPS tab, enter “Petoskey Pointy Sticks.”  This takes you to our very own Ravelry group.  Join the conversations in the forums, share your projects and finishes, and ask questions.  It’s fun to have knitting friends in cyberspace.   Several times a year, the shop sponsors a Knit-Along (KAL), led by Cynthia D., Debbie P., Meta K., Marty I., and Jenny L.  Knitters from around the Midwest and far-flung parts of the country participate.  Please join us!  If you don’t KAL, you can still share your own projects and admire the others.  No one is ever pressured to KAL.

Can’t come in to the shop?  Cindy’s has a large following from all around the country.  Northern Michigan draws lots of travelers and hosts numerous seasonal residents.  From the time Cindy opened her first shop in Mackinaw City, visitors to Northern Michigan were drawn to the beautiful yarns, the friendly service, and the Up North ambiance.  The shop is now in Petoskey, but the atmosphere remains the same.  We hope you will visit when you are Up North.   It’s exciting to welcome our returning friends for the summer, or their vacation time.  If you can’t come in, you follow us here on our website,  Email ( us with questions, or call the shop (231) 439-9221.  We’re here to serve you!
