Summer Shawl KAL (knit along)
This colorful shawl is an easy knit, but there are a few tricks & clarifications I can give you to make it truly perfect. It only needs three balls of Bamboo Pop yarn. Cindy has lots of scrumptious colors to choose from. The drape is great and it’s just right for summer’s little breezes.
You purchase your yarn and the pattern at Cindy’s.
In June: Join me for any of the Drop in HELP! classes and I’ll give you my tips. Or catch me at an Open Knit. No cost to you, but you can make a donation to my fund for NWM Habitat for Humanity’s 2017 Women Build house in Alanson.

Help Doctor–the drop in HELP! class for knitting and crochet
(You do not need to sign up for this class. It is ongoing on Thursdays.)
You bring in your project for help, encouragement, analysis, fun. You’ll get your question answered and learn the answer to all the other participants’ questions that come up. Techniques covered will add to your knitting/crocheting skills as you spend time with other fiber enthusiasts.
Skills needed: knowledge of basic knitting (k & p) or crochet (ch, sc, dc) stitches
Supplies: pattern, yarn for project, several choices of hooks or needles near the one called for in your pattern, basic tools as listed at top
Most Thursdays, 1:00–3:00; there is no fee for this class for the rest of the year 2017. I’m asking that you make a donation to help fund the NWM Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build in Alanson.
Two color, “good on both sides” scarf. No difficult techniques, only 4 ends to weave in. Great for a man’s scarf or for team colors. Knit flat, but you need a circular needle for the technique. A great beginning knit project! Or for a quick gift.
Skills needed: knitting, purling, long-tail cast on
Supplies: two colors of dk or worsted weight yarn (250 yards of each), #8 circular needle, basic tool kit as listed above.
1 session class; Thursday, June 1; 10:00–12:00; $12

My Favorite Socks
Join me in knitting socks top-down with my favorite techniques. Your choice as to the needle type you use (NO magic loop). This class will focus on sock making techniques: gauge for fit, cast on for comfort & stretch, reinforcement, heel flap considerations, minding the gaps, turning the heel, foot section length, Kitchener stitch helps, etc.
Please note: There will be homework to complete the various sock sections between sessions. The sessions and homework are designed to give you plenty of time to finish. Extra help or missed classes need to be made-up by scheduling a private lesson.
Skills needed: long-tail cast on, knitting and purling, comfortable with working small circumferences in the round on double points or two circulars
Supplies: #1 or #2 needles (dpns or 2—24” circs), 400 to 450 yds sock/fingering yarn of your choice. I recommend you look for super wash wool blends that have some amount of synthetic (10-25%) for durability. The store has quite a few choices and the staff will be happy to assist you with your purchase.
Preparation homework: with your chosen yarn, knit a gauge swatch in stockinette stitch (knit a row, purl a row) over 30 stitches for 2 inches using the needle size you think will work best. If the fabric is too loose or too tight, mark the change row and knit 2 more inches with a different size needle. Bind off once you have a fabric you like. Wash your swatch as you will treat the socks, making sure you have pins or markers in it which indicate what needles were used where. Bring swatch & needles from the fabric you liked best in your swatch. If you are still not happy with the fabric of your swatch (too loose, too tight) bring needles in additional sizes. Socks should be a fairly tight, dense fabric for them to wear well and be comfortable underfoot. So if you are an especially loose knitter, start your swatch with the #1 needles.
4 session class with homework; Thursdays, June 8, 15, 22 & 29; 10:00–noon; $40

Learn to Knit
Get started in this wonderful hand craft. There are just two stitches that make up all the wonderful things in the knit world. Once you learn them and spend some time practicing  you will be on your way to so many adventures.
Skills needed: this class will be structured assuming you have no knitting skills
Supplies: knitting worsted in a light color that you like, #8 or #9 straight or circular needles, basic tool kit as listed above.
3 session class; Thursdays, June 8, 15 & 22; 3:00–4:30; $30

Build your own class
Pick a technique or project and some friends who want to join you in a learning adventure. I will tailor the class(es) to your interests and schedule. We can gather at the store or in someone’s home. Endless possibilities! For example a learn to knit or crochet gathering. Your group will most likely need two or three 2-hour sessions to learn and be comfortable with the basics of either knitting or crochet.

NOTE: Please sign up by contacting the store (439-9221). Classes with fewer than 3 students will generally be cancelled, or you can reschedule for private lessons on the topic.
